The Online Media in Front of the Proposed Amendments to Media Law
Albania is a country living its 30th year in democracy and the days where everything was controlled and censored, including here the media and the freedom of expression exercised by the latter are already gone. With the evolution of technology, the media during the last decade has established a new form of it, called online media. The eagerness of the latter to freely express (without restrictions) its opinion may lead sometimes to a distortion of information served to the public. It is exactly this that has led the Council of Ministers to propose some amendments to the “Law on Audiovisual Media” aiming to regulate the online media and to refrain them from publishing the so-called “fake news.” Thus, this article will analyze some of the amendments proposed by the executive, which have faced continuous objections by the civil society activists, journalists, etc.
